Friday Evening

A 1 track nu-disco single (4m 18s) — released March 19th 2021 on Heard And Felt

Having had one of the longest lockdowns in the world, residents of Melbourne, Australia had plenty of time to find new ways to occupy themselves and adjust their routines and activities. Separated from his live band and unable to attend his sound recording course, young multi-instrumentalist and producer Liam de Bruin found himself spending much of his days in his garage studio in the beachside suburb of Frankston. There he was rapidly developing a new solo sound inspired by his growing 'obsession' (as he calls it) with the funky side of house music.

Current single 'Friday Evening' perfectly reveals Liam's MO. Drums, percussion, bass, guitar and keyboards all played live by Liam himself, then tightly packed into four minutes of funk from the producer's chair, combining the organic feel and sound of disco with the sensibilities of house. This multi-instrumentalist approach to making house and uptempo grooves shares a sound and vibe with Dan Kye (AKA Jordan Rakei) and Kerem Akdag, but there is common ground with Lord Echo, Mocky, Julien Dyne and Jimi Tenor too.

While Liam long had a love of soul, funk, jazz and R&B, his introduction to house music came from a surprising source: his fellow members of 'surf rock psych punk' band The Belair Limp Bombs. The thriving Melbourne live house scene soon became a strong influence, with many of the key artists having also started out as musicians rather than DJs. A number of Liam's inspirations within that scene, like Close Counters, Horatio Luna, Teymori and Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, have gone on to become fans of Liam, almost as much as he is of them!

'Friday Evening' is the first taste of Liam's debut EP coming soon on vinyl and digital.
